As a Markham Stouffville Hospital Volunteer, the tasks and roles you must do vary from person to person based on the department you are a part of. Departments can be selected by the individual but overall, it is a great experience to take a step into a work environment, especially one that helps so many people.

Make an impact in the community with youth-run councils! Most councils award volunteer services hours for all meetings.

CREATE Markham is a two-day conference where participants come together and brainstorm prompts to benefit their community! You’ll develop your leadership skills and create connections, while also gaining volunteering hours and experience.

Founded in 2008, the Markham Teen Arts Council (MTAC) is the youth committee of the Markham Arts Council (NPO), organizing community events for youth that incorporate artistic disciplines ranging anywhere from music to literary arts. MTAC's signature events include the 24 Hour Film Challenge, WordUp!, Solstice, and more.

The Markham Mayor's Youth Council is a group of diverse and dedicated teens representing the fabric of Markham's youth community. They are dedicated to raising awareness and celebrating youth, as well as being an active voice in the City of Markham. It is comprised of youth, Markahm Councillors and the Mayor of Markham.

A unique modular-based format provides students with a diverse set of subject areas and flexibility. Students participate in the exploration of the respective fields, career opportunities, and what they should be thinking about and doing in high school to prepare themselves for post-secondary admission and education.

Harvard's Pre-College Program for high school students is an intensive two-week summer program designed to give students a glimpse of college life. Living on the Harvard campus during the two-weeks, students will take a college-level course, venture on field trips and explore what Harvard has to offer.

The Sir Isaac Newton Exam (SIN) is a free physics contest offered by the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Waterloo, for all high school students. The contest is composed of 12 questions and students will have 2 hours to work through the problems. Participating in the contest will increase the chance of being eligible for scholarship.

The Avogadro Exam is offered by the University of Waterloo and is designed for Grade 11 students. The Chem 13 News Exam is offered by the University of Waterloo and is designed for Grade 12 students.

The Toronto Brain Bee is a local neuroscience competition for high school students. The champion will compete in the National Brain Bee. Questions can be one word responses, multiple choice or true and false. Competitions take place at U of T yearly.

It is a physics contest for grade 11 students made by the Ontario Association of Physics Teachers and it is sponsored by the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering from University of Toronto. The contest covers the grade 11 physics curriculum. Grade 12s can still also participate.
